A former dancer and choreographer with a passion for human kinetics, Jo-Anne first discovered Pilates while in New York pursuing her Master’s of Arts at NYU. It was through her studies in dance, education, movement analysis and kinesiology that she was introduced to Pilates, and was hooked.
Since her certification she has worked with physiotherapists, helping their patients on the road to recovery, trained athletes to enhance their athletic performance and assisted breast cancer survivors rebuild their strength and spirit.
Marie has her B.Ed. from the University of Alberta and is fully certified in the STOTT PILATES® method. She began her foray into the wellness world in 1997 which led to a position as Fitness Program Director at the YMCA and shortly thereafter an instructor of fitness leaders, personal trainers and a conference presenter. Marie stumbled upon Pilates in 2000 and found the missing link between her fitness background and passion for purposeful movement and dance. She became an instructor in 2001. Her specialty in Pilates comes from her extensive movement training background and her programs capitalize on her variety of certifications. You can expect programs that focus on form and variety, as well as efficiency of movement. She firmly believes that every program must be carefully tailored to each individual based on background, goals, and lifestyle.
Marie’s personal interests include outdoor adventure, (she is an avid mountain biker and climber) paddle sports, yoga, dance and running. Most recently she has ventured into the world of triathlon and, just to keep things interesting, aerial acrobatics.
In 2007, she received an invitation by STOTT PILATES® Corporate Training Centre to become an Instructor Trainer and fulfilled the requirements with high recommendations. She currently trains and certifies instructors in the STOTT PILATES Method, presents workshops and hosts courses throughout the province. She is the proud mother of two relentlessly active children.

Karrie grew up in a small town on the outskirts of Calgary, allowing her ample opportunity to participate in various sports and lead a highly active upbringing. At a young age she discovered a love for dance, and pursued her passion for six years in a competitive atmosphere. Upon completing high school, Karrie took an interest in the hair industry. After training under some of the most accomplished stylist’s in the city, she began a successful career in one of the top salons in Calgary. After three years in the industry she developed a rare condition that progressively caused weakness and atrophy in her arms, no longer allowing her to continue with her career.
After years working on her feet causing back pain, and increasing shoulder and neck muscle tension from her condition she discovered the benefits of Pilates and how it helped improve her quality of life. Upon further research she discovered the STOTT PILATES method and was drawn to the extensive anatomical knowledge incorporated into a functional fitness practice. She began her certification in 2005, and has been an instructor with the studio since early 2006. Michelle has been a high school math teacher since 2000, currently teaching adult upgrading courses part time for the Calgary Board of Education. Her first experience with Pilates was in a fusion class some years ago at a small yoga studio, which she immediately loved. It didn’t take long for Michelle to realize how much more there was to Pilates than just a work out. After only 2 years as a client at Calgary Pilates, she decided to become a STOTT PILATES® instructor.
Michelle received her initial certification in October 2010. Having no previous fitness education, she was astounded at the amount of knowledge the course offered. She completes continuing education workshops every year and is excited to expand her pilates certifications.
Michelle’s other passion is Bikram Yoga, practicing 5-6 times a week, and recently became a Bikram Yoga Instructor. The principles learned within the STOTT PILATES method have been incredibly beneficial to her yoga practice and finds the combination the two disciplines incredibly rewarding, both physically and mentally.

Andrea, (a.k.a. Andy) was born and raised in Victoria B.C. Her personal interest in anatomy and physiology led to a challenging and rewarding career in the fitness industry. In 2006 she became a certified personal trainer. Andy was introduced to Pilates, when her physiotherapist suggested it as a way to reduce back pain and improve posture. After just a few lessons, she had a reduction in pain and she could see how incorporating the basic principles of Pilates into her own workouts, as well as her daily life, just made so much sense! Her education as a personal trainer taught her to focus on big movements while working the big muscle groups, but since becoming a certified instructor in the STOTT PILATES® Method, she has gained a deeper understanding of the importance of all the small, stabilizing muscles in our body and the effect these muscles have on posture, improving strength, endurance and ultimately preventing injury. She trains with the belief that being strong means being balanced throughout the entire body, working from the inside out! And this, in turn, leads to improved performance in everything we do! Andy is also certified to teach TRX, and indoor cycling. She loves to mix things up and is always thinking of new and exciting ways to provide a challenging workout for clients.

In 2001 Jackie discovered the practice of Pilates after experiencing lower back problems during intense exercise stemming from a childhood injury. Becoming exhausted with visiting chiropractors, she decided to strengthen her core with Pilates. Faithfully practicing 2-3 times per week, she noticed immediate results and never looked back.
After 10 years of practice, and growing tired of the corporate world sitting in a posterior pelvic tilt, she enrolled in the Instructor Training Program. Through teaching she has found instant gratification in assisting clients to attain their goals, and will continue educating to enhance her teaching skills.
Tara is a certified instructor in the STOTT PILATES® Method. She has been practicing pilates on and off for over 20 years. She was first introduced to it when she was dancing professionally. She found it to be a great exercise routine for when she was working on cruise ships as she could do it virtually anywhere. When her dancing career ended, she started to work as a massage therapist but was constantly struggling with back and neck issues from poor posture while working. A friend suggested a pilates class for fun and, instantly feeling the benefits, Tara decided to train as an instructor.
Tara has just joined the Calgary Pilates Center team after spending some time at home with her two daughters. She has enjoyed getting back into the studio and is looking forward to helping you achieve the same benefits both mental and physical that she enjoys from her pilates practice.
