Group SPX Program
Composed of Level 1 (Essential and Intermediate) courses and workshops from our standard Intensive and Comprehensive programs, Group SPX programming is designed to provide instructors with the core skills to teach matwork and reformer group classes.
For facility owners, managers and program directors who want to implement a quality group pilates program as quickly and effectively as possible, the STOTT PILATES® Group SPX programming stream is the answer.
General Course Objectives
- How to apply STOTT PILATES® biomechanical principles of core stability, peripheral mobility, breathing and alignment to relevant exercises
- Breakdown of essential and intermediate level exercises
- Exercise essence, muscular initiation and movement sequencing
- Variations to increase or decrease exercise intensity
- Modifications for specific body types, postural issues and conditions
- Effective communication, visual skills, verbal cuing and imagery for performance enhancement and client motivation
Program Courses
Group SPX Mat-Plus Training [GM]
This course is designed specifically for trainers who teach in a group environment. Taught in two modules, instructors learn necessary skills to conduct safe Essential and Intermediate level group matwork classes with energy and effective cueing techniques. Instructors are eligible to take the certification exam once they have successfully completed both modules 1 & 2. Upon completion of this course, instructors can take a crossover workshop should they decide to enter one of the Intensive or Comprehensive programs that cover customized private STOTT PILATES™ training.
In addition to general course objectives, this course covers:
- How to conduct an orientation session that promotes group matwork or Mat-Plus classes to first time clients
- en group matwork routines (Essential through Intermediate) integrating small equipment (Flex-Bands, Fitness Circles and Toning Balls), with a variety of intensity levels
- Motivation and observation skills, as well as verbal cueing and imagery specific to group training
- Standard modifications to help the instructor deal with different students in the same class
- Form and functional anatomy involved in each exercise
- More than 57 exercises, plus multiple modifications
Prerequisites:
- Working knowledge of functional anatomy
- 30 hours pilates classes
- Three-plus years teaching movement or fitness
Course Duration:
40 hours instruction &supervised teaching, Module 1 is 25 hours, Module 2 is 15 hours. After each 15 hour or 10 hour segment we recommend minimum 3 hours of observation, minimum 5 hours practice teaching, minimum 10 hours physical review.

4.0 STOTT PILATES® ACE TBD
Group SPX Reformer Training [GR]
This course is specifically designed for trainers who teach in a group environment. Composed of two modules, it will provide instructors with the skills to conduct safe Essential and Intermediate level Group SPX Reformer classes with energy and effective cueing techniques. Instructors are eligible to take the certification exam once they have successfully completed both modules 1 &2. Upon completion of this course, instructors can take a crossover workshop should they decide to enter one of the Intensive or Comprehensive programs that cover customized private STOTT PILATES® training.
In addition to general course objectives, this course covers:
- How to conduct an orientation session to promote Group Reformer classes to new clients
- Effective use of the reformer to enhance torso stability and strength, peripheral extremity conditioning, joint stability, flexibility, balance and coordination
- Twelve group reformer programs (Essential through Intermediate) with a variety of intensity levels
- Motivation and observation skills, as well as verbal cueing and imagery specific to group classes
- Standard modifications to help the instructor deal with different students in the class
- Form and functional anatomy involved in each exercise
- More than 120 Essential and Intermediate level exercises including warm ups and plyometric exercises using the Jumpboard, plus multiple modifications.
Prerequisites:
Working knowledge of functional anatomy. 30 hours pilates classes. Three-plus years teaching movement or fitness.
Course Duration:
50 hours of instruction &supervised teaching. Module 1 is 30 hours, Module 2 is 20 hours. After each 15 hour or 10 hour segment we recommend: Minimum 3 hours of observation, minimum 7 hours practice teaching, minimum 10 hours physical review.
