She embraced a passionate lifestyle of physical training which included excelling in Tae-Bo and cardio fitness. In 2004, Amy began her journey with Pilates in Fort Worth, Texas. Joyce
Joyce is a Belgian citizen and has been living in Calgary for almost 2 years. Ten years ago, she interrupted a successful career in public relations and communications to follow her husband, an oil company executive, moving around the world. After living in Luanda, Angola for 4 years, she moved to Texas where she was introduced to pilates by tennis team members. Skeptical at first, she soon realized that the strong focus on core strength would help to improve her tennis and golf game. Moreover, the active lengthening of the muscles contributed to staying flexible, even when training for a marathon and getting older.
After a few years she became so passionate about pilates that she decided to become an instructor to be able to advocate and teach the undeniable benefits of this exercise method to other people. She completed a Peak Pilates mat course and then added the STOTT PILATES® certification for mat, reformer, cadillac, chair, barrels and special populations. She is convinced that pilates is a major part of a healthy lifestyle, invigorating both the body and mind. Joyce teaches both group classes and privates.
Karrie
Karrie grew up in a small town on the outskirts of Calgary, allowing her ample opportunity to participate in various sports and lead a highly active upbringing. At a young age she discovered a love for dance, and pursued her passion for six years in a competitive atmosphere. Upon completing high school, Karrie took an interest in the hair industry. After training under some of the most accomplished stylist’s in the city, she began a successful career in one of the top salons in Calgary. After three years in the industry she developed a rare condition that progressively caused weakness and atrophy in her arms, no longer allowing her to continue with her career.
After years working on her feet causing back pain, and increasing shoulder and neck muscle tension from her condition she discovered the benefits of Pilates and how it helped improve her quality of life. Upon further research she discovered the STOTT PILATES method and was drawn to the extensive anatomical knowledge incorporated into a functional fitness practice. She began her certification in 2005, and has been an instructor with the studio since early 2006. Since then she has become a fully trained STOTT PILATES instructor, and has had the pleasure of working with many clients with varying health issues. She finds deep gratification in helping others to achieve goals they felt were unattainable due to years of chronic pain, or limitations from health issues. Having had to accommodate her own condition has helped her to become more imaginative and innovative in modifying exercises to accommodate her diverse clientele.
Kathie
Kathie graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelors Degree in Business. After having two children and working full-time in Surgical Sales with several different companies, she decided her life needed more "balance".
As a young athlete, Kathie competed in as many sports as she could. Gymnastics, dance, golf, tennis, volleyball, field hockey and skiing were among her favourites. Since then, work and family left little time for fitness so she decided to make it a priority in her life again. In 1997, she quit her very stressful full-time job and became certified by the AFLCA to teach group fitness classes. Soon after, a back injury, brought on by over exercise and lack of understanding of functional fitness, forced Kathie to re-evaluate her approach to fitness. After experimenting with several techniques, the injury was overcome by applying the Pilates method.
The more she learned about the Pilates, the more she knew it was the right fit. She started her Pilates education with The Physical Mind Institute in 2000. Forever curious about the human body, Kathie discovered the STOTT PILATES® method and found their approach to core conditioning and functional fitness to be second to none.
She has gone on to become a STOTT PILATES Certified Instructor in Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and Barrels and has completed the Injuries and Special Populations coursework.
Laura
As a mother of two extremely busy girls, Laura makes time to follow her personal passion of instructing Pilates. Her involvement in dance, gymnastics and synchronized swimming as either a participant or instructor throughout her life convinced Laura that the Pilates method of conditioning drew from the same principals of fluid movement and body control.
Over the past several years, Laura has obtained Full Certification in all disciplines of STOTT PILATES®. Laura teaches group classes, as well as private and semi-private clients that range from post rehab, pre and post natal, to high functioning athletes. Laura is also certified in CPR.
Laura's training in the Pilates Method cemented her faith in its benefits. Watching the magic of this method enhance people's lives is a daily pleasure.
